Now here are some points you should keep in mind before choosing a name for your baby, etc.

- It is forbidden to use names that contain of bad, improper meanings or if the name has no meaning to it all.

- Names such as Fir'aun, Haman and others musn't be used since they are of wicked rulers.

- Devil names like Al-A’war, Al-Ajda, Khanzab, etc are forbidden to be used as names.

- Do not use a boy's name for a girl and vice versa.

- It is forbidden to pick names that imply meanings that are unpleasant or offensive in connotations. The Prophet had changed names from Harb (War) with Salam (Peace), ‘Asiyah (Rebellious) with Jamilah (Beautiful), Sa`b (Difficult) with Sahl (Easy to deal with), etc

- Avoid names that give off any indication of any trace of shirk or association of partners with Allah like `Abd al-Ka`bah, or `Abd al-Nabi meaining 'servant of the Ka`bah' or 'servant of the Prophet', since all of us are servants of Allah alone. Instead you can use Abdul (slave or servant of) with probably any of the 99 names/attributes of Allah like for example Abdullah which means 'Slave of Allah'

- It is forbidden to use names of fetish (worship items)like Latta,'Uzza, Manat, Assah, Naailat, Hublu, and others

- For the 99 names of Allah there must be 'Abd' or 'Abdul' in front of it which means Slave of (Servant of). So for example Abdul Sabur would work, which means 'Servant of the Patient'

- It is forbidden to select a name which is not known to be from the Perfect Names/Attributes of Allah , like for ex: Abd al-Mawjood (the slave of the Present One), Abd al-Sattar, etc. This is so because Allah's Names cannot be confirmed without an authentic text straight from the Qur'an or the Sunnah. By doing such a thing, we would end up giving Names to Allah, which are not affirmed for Him.

- It is Makrooh to use any word with the name of Allah except 'Abd', like 'Rahmat Allah' meaning 'the Blessings of Allah'.

Now whatever Arabic name you decide to choose for you or your baby is up to you but please make sure to keep these points in mind before deciding to choose what name you want and this should hopefully save you from choosing a name that musn't be used. Anyway take care once again :)

Well Hazreti Muhammed (S.A.W) had mentioned that were about 124'000 prophets, peace be upon them, who were sent to various nations and tribes throughout history but there could of been more, like maybe even 224'000 prophets or so. Now I believe nobody knows for sure of how many actual prophets there were in Islam and other religions. Also out of those many prophets, only 25 prophets were able to be mentioned in the Qur'an and they are as they follows:

Now maybe some people already know this but I'll still mention it. Virtually on everybody's hand there are some lines that appear on it. Those 'lines' that you see actually form the Arabic numelogy. On the left hand there are two lines that look like an arrow's head like so /\ well something like that and the second is a regular line which is kind of like this I guess "l" those two lines represent the number 81 and on the right hand it is the same except they are switched around which becomes 18. When those two are added together it becomes 99 which we know today that there are 99 names of Allah. And also if you were to subtract 81 from 18 it becomes 63. Which was the age Hazreti Muhammad (S.A.W) has passed away (pbuh).

Anyway that is all I wanted to say and maybe like I said some or most people out there already know this and maybe 'some' might disagree with this or something for reasons I don't know :). Now one more thing I wanted to mentioned is, something different but revelant to this site and that is uhh if you would like to use any of the 99 names of Allah mentioned here, make sure to use 'Abdul' in front of it inshallah which means 'slave or servant of'. So for example one can use Abdul Kareem which means 'Slave of the Generous'. This will just take you to the letter 'A' for the male baby names on this site. Some recommended Arabic Names (Mustahabb)

A name with the first word Abd meaning servant or slave followed by probably any of the 99 Names/attributes of Allah can be used as an Arabic name for Muslims. Doing it like this indicates servitude to Allah, for e.g. Abd al-Ilaah which means 'slave of the One True Lord' Abd al-Ghafoor, Abd al-Azeez, Abd al-Malik, etc. However, maybe the best name is 'Abd-Allah' meaning 'the slave of Allah' and 'Abd al-Rahmaan' which is 'the slave of the Rahmaan' as it was reported that the Prophet (S.A.W) said: "The most beloved of names to Allah are 'Abd-Allah and 'Abd al-Rahmaan." 1) Names of people who are immoral like singers and actors musn't be used to name a baby since it shows a sign of foolishness and lack of pride in one's faith. So if your intention is to use their name because they are a famous singer and while not looking at the meaning of that name then that certainly is not good. But if their names holds a good meaning then you may use it but not for in their imitation.

2) Names that are too soft, charming, or have provocative meaning especially for girls, for ex: Ghaadah which means 'delicate young woman', Huyaam (one passionately in love) or Shaadiyah (female singer), etc.

3) Names that displays a part of sin or that refers to tyrants and sinners like 'Saariq' meaning 'thief' or 'Zaalim' (wrong-doer),etc. It's also forbidden to use names of devils (Shayaateen) like Khanzab, al-Walhaan, al-A'war and al-Ajda'

4) It is disliked to use the names of Angels particularly for girls because it implies imitation of the Mushrikeen, who considered Angels as daughters of Allah. (Na'aodhu billah).

(5) Names of Surahs from the Qur'an, like Ta-Ha and Yaa-Seen because these words are al-Huroof al-Muqatta'ah (letters that appears at the beginning of some Surahs in the Quran and their meaning is only known by Allah).

Names that are Haram (Forbidden) for a Muslim baby and others. Part 3

Names that belong to the Kuffar or are particular to the Kuffar should not be used to name a baby. And other names that denote religions of Kufr are all forbidden and musn't be used. This is so because these create imitating Kuffar and it might also probably make one to be closer to them.

Now avoiding this might be hard, especially at times like these were the temptation is high but one has to remember that this is big sin and could mean a sign of humiliation and defeat since it is an imitation of the Kuffar. So if one takes their names out from desires and whims, then surely that is a major sin.

Also the person should be reminded of the Hadith of Allah's Messenger (S.A.W) who said: "He who imitates a people is one of them." (Saheeh al-Bukharee) and if using such names is because one actually believes that these names are better than the Muslim names, then this could definitely mean taken away from Islam.

Now if you converted and lets say you have a typical name in the Western society or something, you may keep it if its meaning is good and not a bad/improper one. But changing a name when converting to Islam can be good since it shows a condition of repentance.

Names that are Haram (Forbidden) for a Muslim baby and others. Part 2

According to the scholars' consensus names which are particular to Allah alone are Haram to be used, like al-Quddoos (the Most Holy), al-Khaliq (the Creator), al-Rabb (the Lord), al-Rahmaan (the Most Merciful), etc.

Also names, which are Qualities/Attributes of Allah alone, like Malik al-Mulook which means 'King of kings' and al-Qaahir (the Subduer), etc. Because Allah says: "Do you know of any who is similar to Him?" [This can be found in Surah Maryam (19): 65]

The Messenger of Allah (S.A.W) had said: 'The most despised name with Allah on the Day of Resurrection will be a man called Malik al-Mulook." (Saheeh al-Bukharee)

According to a report in Saheeh Muslim, he (S.A.W) said: "The man who will be most deserving of Allah's anger and most evil on the Day of Resurrection will be a man who was called Malik al-Amlaak. There is no King except Allah."

It is also forbidden to pick names for a muslim baby, and whomever else, which befit no one except for the Prophet, such as Rahmat lil-Alameen meaning, 'Mercy for the world', Sayyid Walad Adam (master of the sons of Adam), Sayyid al-Naas (master of mankind), etc. Because these names befit no one except him.

Islam forbids worshiping anyone or anything other than Allah, therefore any name for a muslim baby, and others, which shows any servitude to anybody except Him must definitely be avoided, whether its the Prophets, Angels or a leader, like Abd al-Rasool (slave of the Messenger), Abd an-Nabi (slave of the Prophet), or Abd Al-Ameer (slave of the prince).

Haani' Ibn Yazeed (R.A) had said: "A delegation came to the Prophet (S.A.W) and he heard them calling someone 'Abd al-Hajar which means 'slave of the stone'. He asked him: 'What is your name?" and he replied by saying, 'Abd al-Hajar.' He said, "No, you are Abd-Allah meaning 'the slave of Allah'." (See Al-Mawsoo'ah al-Fiqhiyyah '11/335')

It is mentioned in Kashshaaf al-Qinaa': "They (the scholars) had agreed that every name that implies enslavement to anything other than Allah is forbidden (Haram) to be used , such as 'Abd al-'Uzza, 'Abd 'Amr, 'Abd 'Ali, 'Abd al-Ka'bah, and any other kind of similar names, such as 'Abd al-Nabi meaning 'slave of the Prophet', 'Abd al-Husayn, 'Abd al-Maseeh (slave of the Messiah)." [Haashiyat Ibn Aabideen 5/268; Mughni al-Muhtaaj, 4/295; Tuhfat al-Muhtaaj, 10/373; Kashshaaf al-Qinaa', 3/27]
